OUR STORY

The Name

The brand name is intriguing, right? You will learn that it is also highly likely to apply to many aspects of your life.

As the world entered a global pandemic in 2020, we found ourselves – like many – suddenly plunged into unimaginable scenarios. Creativity, up-skilling, side-stepping and pride-swallowing became essential to survive. 

 Trust in God, but tie your camel

This ancient Arab proverb couldn’t have been more fitting. Sure, we can put our trust in divine powers to pull us through difficult times but hoping alone does not land jobs, pay bills or smash personal goals. You have to make an effort; you have to tie your camel.

The scholar Al-Tirmidhi narrated the 1400-year old story behind this powerful proverb:

One day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saw a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it and asked him why he chose to do that. The Bedouin answered, "I put my trust in Allah (God)". The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) responded, “Tie your camel first and then place your trust in Allah.”

Our founder has spent years travelling and bringing home treasures from the souks, bazaars and hidden alleyways of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. 

Pre-pandemic tea and dinner parties at her home often included answering questions from guests on the eye-catching art peppered around her rooms. Several friends even sought consultation for their own home decor.

With this in mind, she wanted to bring you high quality conversation-starting canvases whilst adding touches of Islamic World charm to your home.

We work with suppliers who are always looking to do things better - for the planet and for people.

Every purchase, big or small, has a carbon footprint. Astonishingly, around 85% of all textiles produced by the fashion industry end up in landfills, making it a major contributor to environmental damage. According to Business Insider (Oct 2019), the fashion industry emits more carbon emissions than international flights and maritime shipping combined. Shocking.  

For this reason, T.Y.C. and our suppliers aim to limit waste by only putting your items into production when you place the order. All products carrying the T.Y.C. logo are created on-demand through the supply chain. We do not hold stock.

We only use durable high-quality materials to last the test of time.  

Fulfilment centres are strategically located around the world to be close to our customers; to help reduce CO2 emissions.

We do not accept returns or exchanges on T.Y.C. branded items. With each purchase, you choose the size of the mark to leave on the planet, and we encourage you to choose wisely. 

Finally, we are a proud reforestation partner of One Tree Planted - a non-profit environmental charity dedicated to creating a healthier climate, protecting biodiversity and helping reforestation efforts around the world. (www.onetreeplanted.org)
